About Karen

My passion for movement study has sprung from a fascination with how and why we move and has developed into an inquiry of the role of the body in learning and healing.

Learning is not just a thinking process but a physical one that involves many of our sensory modalities. Healing is not just an emotional process but is also a physical one. They are intertwined, healing spurs learning and new learning generates healing.

Our curiosities arise from our needs; our desire to heal, grow and learn which develops a sense of self and place in the world. Engaging with you in your curiosity is a dynamic experience that we travel together.

With me you will explore the tools of breath, sensation, movement, imagination and expression to apply new ways of thinking and being to daily life challenges.

I am a certified Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analyst (University of Washington 1991), a Registered Somatic Movement Therapist (ISMETA 2004), and a WA Certified Counselor (2004), with a Masters in Somatic Psychology (Santa Barbara Graduate Institute 2009). I have been dancing, performing, teaching dance and movement study for over thirty years. (see training and background page)
